Pushed vs Pulled

Some parents drag their kids around to boring old museums full of old artifacts, the parents put up with the kids whining hoping that with enough exposure the kids will appreciate something.

Some kids have to be dragged away from old museums, and they argue with their parents that they haven't finished looking at everything.

Some parents drag their kids around boring old art museums full of impressionist painting and put up with their kids very obvious low level of interest because they don't expect their kids to enjoy "real" art yet.

Some kids have to be dragged away from a certain pastel painting that really captured their child's heart because there are no chairs in the room and standing there for ten minutes, after everyone else has gone on, was too much.

Some parents drag their kids to foreign langauge classes.

Some kids have to be dragged out every French book shop after forcing their bilingual Tante to read aloud several books, sentence by sentence with the kids repeating the sentences in an attempt to perfect their French pronunciation and accent.

When people wonder if I am "pushing" Z to be so gifted... that I am hothousing her... I wish they would just spend one day with us.

I understand.

Last week we took Ami & her cousins to Montezuma's Castle. Ami was upset with her older cousin because she moved too fast on the trail and through exhibits whereas she likes to linger and take it all in.

Yeah, Z is definitely a lingerer. ;)
